In the world of eCommerce, every business wants to stand out from the competition and attract more customers to their online store. One effective way to achieve this is through the use of structured data. In this article, we will explore what structured data is, how it works, and why your Shopify store needs it.
What is Structured Data? Structured data is a type of code that provides search engines with additional information about the content on a website. It helps search engines understand the context of the content on a website, making it easier for them to display relevant search results. Structured data is typically written in a format called Schema.org, which is a collaborative effort between Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Yandex to create a standardized vocabulary for structured data.
How Does Structured Data Work? Structured data is added to the HTML code of a website using special markup language that search engines can read. This markup language is used to create a set of data points that describe the content on the website, such as the name of a product, the price, the availability, and the rating. This information is then used by search engines to create rich snippets, which are enhanced search results that provide users with more information about the content on a website.
Why Your Shopify Store Needs Structured Data Structured data provides several benefits for eCommerce businesses, including:
Improved search engine rankings: By providing search engines with additional information about the content on your website, structured data can help improve your search engine rankings, making it easier for customers to find your store.
Increased click-through rates: Rich snippets created using structured data can help your store stand out in search engine results, increasing the likelihood that customers will click on your website.
Enhanced user experience: By providing customers with more information about your products, structured data can help improve the user experience on your website, making it easier for customers to find what they are looking for.
Better analytics: By providing more detailed information about the content on your website, structured data can help you track user behavior and measure the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns.
How to Implement Structured Data on Your Shopify Store Implementing structured data on your Shopify store is relatively easy. Here are some steps you can follow to get started:
Choose the right structured data markup: There are several types of structured data markup you can use on your website, such as product markup, review markup, and article markup. Choose the markup that is most relevant to the content on your website.
Use a structured data tool: Shopify provides several apps that can help you implement structured data on your website, such as JSON-LD for SEO and SEO Manager. These apps make it easy to add structured data to your store without any coding knowledge.
Test your structured data: Once you have added structured data to your website, it is important to test it using the Google Structured Data Testing Tool. This tool will help you ensure that your structured data is correct and properly implemented.
Conclusion Structured data is an essential tool for eCommerce businesses that want to improve their search engine rankings, increase click-through rates, and enhance the user experience on their website. By following the steps outlined in this article, you can implement structured data on your Shopify store and reap the benefits of this powerful SEO tool.

]]>Eight seconds. That’s the average person's attention span duration. According to a study from Microsoft, people generally lose concentration after eight seconds. Even goldfish flitting about their bowl have us beat by a second. Facepalm.
Luckily our brain can process images in a fraction of a second, making them ideal short-hand for communication and critical for grabbing attention. This is especially true in social media where we’re inundated with content; everything from what our friend’s kid just did to memes that make us laugh to the coolest new product from one of our favorite brands.
Studies have shown that including images with social media posts improve engagement. But, did you know the types of images that work best varies by platform? Check out what the research says about Facebook vs Instagram.
BuzzSumo research found that Facebook posts with images have 2.3 times more engagement than text-only posts. Think about that. For every like you received on a status update with just text, you could have gotten at least two more if it included an image. By including an image along with the content description, you can leverage this learning when sharing blog posts and long-form content like white papers and e-books.
Regardless of what type of image you use, be sure it’s relevant. Make sure it correlates with the content, the meaning is clear and will have the desired impact on the audience. Consider these six types of images that can be used to drive engagement on Facebook:
You may be surprised to learn that the type of engagement varies based on the type of image used. Research by Convince & Convert found:
But wait, there’s more. All heavily liked images tend to share these four qualities:
When in doubt, check out your own Facebook feed to see what’s being shared and what grabs your attention. For example, which of these posts by clothing brand Shein do you think had the most shares?
The pooch of course! Because it’s cute and relatable, and as soon as you see it you can think of at least a dozen people on your friends list that would get a kick out of it.
What plays well on Facebook doesn’t necessarily work on Instagram. While images without a person are best on Facebook, the opposite is true on Instagram. Images with faces are 38 percent more likely to receive likes and 32 percent more likely to generate comments than those without.
Curalate analyzed 8 million Instagram photos to determine what characteristics drive the most likes. It’s simplicity for the win here. Heavily liked images on Instagram share these six qualities:
Consider these successful posts by fashion brand Everlane and activewear brand Lorna Jane.
Facebook and Instagram aren’t the only places to grab users’ attention with images. Here are a few tips to help you get visual across social media platforms.
Data visualizations are a great way to simplify complex information, attract attention and encourage engagement. In fact, informative images are three times more likely to be shared, making it a great lead-in to longer form content. Here are some tips for creating successful data visualizations:
Calls to action are critical. Lead your viewers to a desired outcome by matching the call to action to the goal of the post and optimizing it for the platform. For example, on Instagram be artful and creative, on Facebook be relatable and on Twitter be newsworthy.
]]>Social sharing images may display on social networks (like Facebook) or in text messaging applications when you share a URL from your site. While it's optional, adding social sharing images is a good way to influence how social posts linking to your site look, even if the page you're sharing doesn't include images.
For an online store, sharing products on social media is crucial for marketing and building social trust. Once you share a link in a post or a direct message to someone, that link will be shared further and will reach a lot of potential customers, so making a good impression is a must.
On Shopify, by default, when sharing a link to a product on any social platform, the image used will be by default the first product image. Or the featured image.
Other pages such as articles, collections or simple pages will use the default share image defined in the store preferences.
Whenever you share a link on any social platform, you want to share as much information as possible so that others may be interested in visiting the link you just shared. Having a badly cropped image of a t-shirt as a social share image for a product will not be too eye-catching to anyone. Or sharing a link to a T-shirt collection without any relevant image will seem the same.
People do not usually read the whole post text and may not read any text at all as long as there is an image in front of their eyes. Attention span can only go so far and if you cannot make a point from the first impression, the shared link may as well be ignored by most people.
Most products have more than one image available. A T-shirt may come in various colours and sizes. A great way to show all this information when sharing a link is to have all ( or some ) product images as a collage in a single image.
Collection share images should also feature a tiled layout of images for the products inside that specific collection so people can have a clear visual picture of what they are going to find on that page.
Using such images for all pages would require some graphic skills to build such images, upload them to Shopify and then with some coding skills, edit the theme's code to use those images as share images.
This means large amounts of time and work put into a task that can be automated.
Fortunately for Shopify stores there is an automated solution that does not require any coding or graphic design and is fully customisable.
COS-custom open graph images app can handle everything for you. It is also extremely simple to use by anyone. You just have to install the app, follow the set-up instructions that will integrate and activate the app within your theme and start generating images for each type of resource/page on your shop.
It features 3 main types of images:
Apart from these main image types there are loads of settings available to make the image look and feel precisely as you want it to.
There is also an option to upload your store logo as a floating image above the main container and size it or position it anywhere inside the image.
All the images are generated on request. This means that everything works instantly. The app does not change any code inside your theme and does not change or upload images on your shop. Once you finish a design and click save it is already ready to use. Once a link is shared, a request is automatically made to request the image. When the request comes, the image is generated and instantly served to the social media platform, where it is cached for a long time.
However when you change the design or change the image entirely, the results will take some time to be visible since those images are cached for a long time and there is no workaround in forcing them to refresh.
At only $5/month this seems like a must have app for any Shopify store owner that has a social media presence.
]]>Marketing has become an essential component of business activity for most companies. While marketing does provide some benefit to a company's bottom line, it is often considered one of the more challenging areas due to the many variables that must be considered. However, marketing is truly the key to growth for any company. With the right marketing techniques, a company can differentiate itself from its competition, increase customer satisfaction and loyalty, improve employee relations, and increase sales revenues. Marketing automation allows many modern marketing practices to flourish, such as segmentation, lead nurturing, lead scoring, relationship marketing, and cross-selling.
A firm must first determine what its marketing goals are. Next, the firm must determine which marketing activities to engage in, what methods to use, and how much effort should be exerted in each area. Once all these decisions have been made, it is time to start tracking results. Analytics is the best way to track and measure all marketing efforts. With the proper analytics software, a company can determine what works and what is not working for its business.
Website analytics is the process of tracking a website's visitor activity. Most marketing automation tools include website analytics because a single interface will allow tracking of the visitor behavior across multiple web sites. Each page view or action, such as a new email, sign-up, purchase or subscription, and even a click through on a "buy now" button will be recorded. The data will be stored and analyzed for insights into product design, copywriting, and advertising.
Lead nurturing is vital to the success of any marketing campaign. Leads, also known as leads, are potential customers that are interested in a particular product or service. By nurturing leads, a company increases the likelihood of converting those leads into actual sales. One of the key benefits of lead nurturing is the creation of higher revenue. Higher revenue means higher income from affiliate marketing programs.
Return on investment is the concept that marketing automation systems will allow marketers to track the cost of marketing campaigns. This will allow marketers to reduce costs, which will in turn, lead to a higher ROI. Marketing automation systems will allow marketers to easily create reports that break down each marketing dollar spent. In addition, marketing automation systems will allow marketers to receive real time lead tracking statistics that will help in analyzing trends in lead behavior.
Many marketing automation systems include workflows that make it easy for marketers to manage marketing campaigns. Workflows will usually let marketers define keyword groups. For example, if a market was defined as the health and wellness community, than keywords related to diet, exercise, shopping, weight loss, etc. would be appropriate. In this workflow, marketers define the keywords to be used in marketing campaigns and then define the workflow for generating relevant marketing campaigns.
The third benefit of marketing automation platform is to eliminate unnecessary tasks. A marketing automation platform provides the tools that marketers need to efficiently manage their marketing campaigns. In addition, these platforms provide actionable information to marketers and increase the efficiency in their marketing campaigns. These tools are usually web based and do not require installation. Some of these tools are Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools, lead capture systems, analytical software, survey management tools, and mobile application tools.
Marketing automation software such as lead nurturing allows marketers to save money and generate leads. It also helps marketers to make the right marketing decisions. Marketing automation tools help in efficient lead nurturing. It helps marketers concentrate on core processes rather than chasing unproductive leads.
Marketing automation solutions help a company obtain higher revenues by lowering marketing costs. It allows a company to focus on their core business processes. This in turn allows a company to focus on improving the quality of their products or services and reduce operational expenses. Marketing automation platforms have the ability to increase sales figures, which results in higher revenues. Thus, it can result in a higher ROI for a company.
Marketing automation solution is an effective method for marketing campaigns. Using a marketing automation platform, businesses can build customer relationships and grow revenue at a much faster pace. A successful marketing automation process aims to build strong customer relationship. A successful marketing automation strategy focuses on providing prospects with useful information, which solves their queries and solves their problems. In turn, this builds trust in a prospect which in turn encourages them to become a regular client of a business. This allows businesses to grow the revenue and achieve a higher ROI.
In marketing automation allows a marketer to build a highly responsive and targeted subscriber base which is targeted towards specific needs and wants. This helps marketers gain leads that are qualified and interested in the products or services offered by a business. This also helps in driving up sales through lead generation. Through a well-planned marketing campaign, marketers can reach targeted audiences and attract potential clients and customers who would eventually lead to increased sales. By employing marketing automation platforms, marketers can build a stronger relationship with their clients and improve customer loyalty and trust.
]]>The report noted, "The increasing concentration of corporate power in the technological domains of e-commerce and digital content markets is making it more difficult for smaller enterprises to compete with large companies". Such concentration is creating an artificial barrier between small players and large corporations, which is eliminating the potential benefits that they can enjoy from sustainable market growth. The report recommended various measures to reduce this concentration.
Some of these measures are actually already available in the form of international harmonization initiatives. Others may require further negotiation and commitment by member states to work with each other. The European Union is presently working on its Digital Single Market Strategy. It aims at encouraging digital trade.
Many people would like to see more European companies operating in the U.S. under the condition that they hire workers from within the EU. However, the reality is that many transnational companies prefer to hire U.S. workers because they pay lower wages and attract a higher population. It is actually much more efficient for the transnational company to have someone from the EU do the job, because the costs of training and employing them in the EU are very low. Also, many Europeans are not familiar with the U.S. system, so the transnational company does not face any language barriers. For these reasons, it will not be easy for European companies to start up their operations in the U.S. under the proposal from the Commission.
If the U.S. allows its negotiators to impose strictures on e-commerce, the effect will be very negative on the competitiveness of the European market. For instance, if the Commission insists that all websites must have a payment gateway and only accept electronic transfers, the impact on European companies will be severe. E-commerce is actually beneficial to the EU because it enables small and medium-sized businesses to compete on a fair playing field. Without the free-trade areas that accompany e-commerce, Europe will not be able to maintain its competitive advantage.
If the Commission moves forward with the proposal, there will be an increase in pressure from European companies to close their offshore branches and move manufacturing factories back to Europe. The proposal states that companies should employ the necessary infrastructure in Europe and provide access to the digital market without charging taxes or levies. It is also suggested that companies register and conduct their business in a country where they have a virtual presence. This will ensure that tax regulations do not affect the companies. While these measures are advantageous to businesses, the proposal has met with strong resistance and criticism from Brussels.
According to an estimate by the Brussels think tank, the digital market will expand by thirty percent between 2010 and 2020. The think tank also estimated that this growth will occur despite a reduction in investment levels. This would mean that e-commerce will create approximately one million new jobs in Europe by the end of its second decade. Given that the industry is already growing at a high rate, this figure is quite significant. In the years to come, the industry is expected to contribute more than one million jobs to the economy of Europe.
Despite the fact that the proposal has met with fierce opposition from the European Commission, it is expected that the proposal will be passed. The fall of the value of the Euro against the dollar has led many investors to question whether the growth of the e-commerce industry in Europe is real. However, experts suggest that the digital market is here to stay. With the right policies and the right kind of infrastructure, the industry is sure to expand for years to come.

]]>What is SEO?
As the name suggest Search engine Optimization is the key tool that optimizes the website for getting better ranking and hence getting more traffic. Business can make their websites visible with it and also you can start branding your business. When someone sues Google, Bing or Yahoo or any other search engine for searching any product in your niche, your site will appear if it is good SEO.
In case you do not have optimized your website then gradually you will lose the website ranking and of course with time visitors. Thus, SEO is important. Let’s find out how it helps an ecommerce site?
How SEO helps ecommerce sites?
When SEO is done different reports are generated. From these reports you can know about the website speed, meta descriptions, visitors per hours and many other things. With these reports it is possible to understand if your website is doing well or it needs changes. SEO uses Meta Keywords, URL structure, Domain page, headings, images and others to improve the SERP of your page.
The most important thing among all these is the content of your website. It is said that Content is King and its true! It is found that 90% of the ecommerce site faces Panda penalties due to low quality pages or duplicate pages. You should not let this happen to your page and make sure that the content is of high quality and unique. Without high quality content your website may face problems.
Moreover, there are many ecommerce sites that are selling same type of product. They have a tendency of copying matters from other websites and post it. This is what damages the ranking of your website. Good SEO practices will never let this happen to your page.
An optimized website will always fetch more traffic. When traffic to your website will increase it is obvious that you can see growth is sales. Until and unless you have an optimized website you cannot expect to hit the global market and be steady there.
]]>A website that is not slow. A slow loading website may be the only reason that your online store didn’t clicked! Thus, it is important to improve your loading speed.
Necessity for better website loading speed
A visitor may not know you but they will consider you a good brand if the loading speed of the website is good enough. Thus, it is necessary to optimize the speed of your website. During web development itself these things are to be checked by the web developers.
With a fast loading website you will not only have better SERP but also better customer engagement and user experience too. You may try the following to optimize your website speed.
Choose a reliable web hosting
Even though care is taken during web development itself, if the web hosting is not done through a reliable web hosting service provider you will not get desired results. Depending upon the scale of business you are into you may choose among shared, dedicated or VPN hosting.
Optimize the image size
For any eCommerce site the images are most important and thus you need to be careful. Always upload relevant images for keeping your customer engaged. However, while the images are very important but large size images is one reason that the website speed is slow? Thus, make sure that the images are compressed for optimizing the speed of the website.
Also you could use high performance image formats for the majority of them and resize them before uploading. For example as a product image you do not have to use a .png file that is 5000x5000 pixels since it will take forever to load and no one will ever see the full size. You can use a .jpg or .jpeg or .webp or even the same .png format but at a more reasonable size like 1000x1000 or 800x800.
Lazy-load images
Lazy-loading is the process of loading items such as images, videos, elements only when the user scrolls to them and they come in view. Think of the loading time saved if the browser only has to load a banner and some text at first, leaving the rest of the page for later. This is most useful if your website has lots of graphical content, like lots of products.
Depending on the content of your website, using lazy-load for it could boost your website speed performance even by 1-2 seconds.
Reduce Plugins
Plugins are installed in every website so that you can add in special features to your website. With time you will keep on adding plugin to make your website a better one. However, do you know that these plugins may be a reason that your website becomes slow?
In order to ensure that they do not slow down your website you can keep checking them and delete those that are not necessary. There are many plugins that will take longer time to process. Identify them and if possible remove them.
When you do the web development make sure that you keep in mind that the success of your website will also depend upon the loading speed. Thus take steps before hand and grow your business.
Make sure the fonts are visible while the page loads
Each and every website uses an assortment of fonts to display text. Whenever a new user visits your website, these fonts have to be fetched from their location, loaded and rendered. If you have a website that has a ton of items to load, the fonts may be 1-2 seconds late and in that time the text will not show up at all. This is an easy fix as you should apply "font-display: swap;" property to all of the "@font-face" items. This instructs the browser to load the fallback font untill the main one is available.
]]>Popular CMS providers used for blogging are:
Shopify is known for hosting mainly online stores and most people link its name with the world of E-commerce and not blogging. This is normal since that is the purpose of the platform.
But you can actually use Shopify for your blog even if you do not want to start an online store. It may cost more or less than other platforms, since the basic plan starts at $29/month with 90 days of free trial ( at least untill this COVID-19 thing goes away ), but you get hosting, security and lots of features that cost extra on other platforms. You could also create a partner account and create a free development site and see if it works out or not before spending a dime.
It is even easier than creating a blog on Wordpress since you do not have to get a hosting provider and ssl certificates and install them on your own.
Here is how you can start your blog on Shopify:
The above steps are general, the actual process being quite lengthy, but easy to acomplish even if you are a total beginner. Shopify offers loads of resources to help you learn.
One drawback for using Shopify for blogging will be that every theme was designed for a store. So you have to roll up your sleeves and dig through the code and remove every bit of code related to shopping. These bits include:
Essentially when a user visits your blog they should not see anything resembling a shop. This may be a difficult step since it requires some technical knowledge, but it can be done fairly easy.
This is a question more and more people ask around online forums. SEO would be extremely important for your blog since it directly impacts the number of visitors on your blog.
Short answer: Shopify is NOT bad at SEO. Think of it this way; Why would you choose to build your online store on a platform that makes things harder. On the contrary, online stores need to be better optimized than a simple blog.
So a longer version of the answer, Shopify is as good at SEO as any other CMS, but in essence SEO is as good as you make it. It requires constant work, constant improvement and delivers slow results.
As a bottom line, you can use Shopify for blogging. It has its strong points as well as weak points, but if you think it suits your needs, you can do it. Maybe one day you will also start your business along your blog.
]]>When starting your Shopify online store, it all comes down to the theme you choose. Most of these themes cost quite a lot of money and can be quite a drawback when starting your store.
Thankfully Shopify offers a few free for life themes that you can use. Of course these themes will not fit the needs of any store. For example if you are building a large store with lots of products sorted on categories and collections, you may have to look at one of the more complex themes that can meet your needs.
Here is the list of all the free themes offered by Shopify:
You can find them here.
By working with all of them and also testing various features on development stores using these themes, I can say that the best theme remains the Debut theme. It also comes by default installed when you create your store, so no need in adding the theme.
To reach this conclusion I have looked into multiple factors:
The only "bad" thing I have noticed for the Debut theme yet, are the sliders. It uses the "Slick" JS library for the sliders which is not by far the best one they could have used since it lacks lots of customization features and it is not that good in terms of performance.
As a personal suggestion, you could replace the slick sliders with Flickity. It is more performance-friendly and has more features.
Of course this requires some technical knowledge to implement, but if you are a bit tech-savy, I am sure you will pull it through.
Although this is in my opinion the best of these free themes offered by Shopify, they can all be the best if the one you choose meets your needs.
Drop a comment if you think this article did or did not cover al the aspects or if you have a different opinion on the matter.
]]>SEO which is search engine optimization is the process in which the quality of a website is well visible for users to know easily when they search the internet. It’s kind of a system in which traffic is increased on a website by the quality of its content.
You would observe that a lot of persons want to build their SEO with all haste, the reason is that;
a. They want to increase the quantity of traffic for their website
I’m sure you know what quantity of traffic means, it means, increasing the number of persons that click on your website page and find it interesting by commenting and showing other interest. This is what all bloggers want for their page as it would promote them in Google and boost their niche.
b. They want to increase the quality of visitors
As we all know, not everyone that visits your web page does a meaningful thing that is beneficial. So, this is where SEO comes of good importance as good content would make more clients love and want to know more about your work.
How does SEO work?
In other to gain the benefits of SEO in your webpage, you need to do the needful and apply it in the right way. You would need to build the following content to get the search engine ranking you desire.
Building the content is not by far enough for a successful SEO campaign. The content will also have to be well-written, keyword-optimised, long enough to cover as many aspects as needed, but also it has to appeal to the user. No one would like to read some 600 word article filled with nonsense just because it is filled with keywords.
The days of those practices are gone now. Google and probably the rest of search engines now focus more on content than the rest of the factors.
There are a lot of factors that can affect the SEO ranking of your page. The following factors must be worked against to succeed on your website.
WEB DEVELOPMENT
Web development as the name implies is the development of a website to meet the standard or taste you desire it to be. It involves improving on either single page of your website or improving the kind of services you offer on all platforms, like the business and social platform.
We could also say that web development is the creation of good applications like e-commerce sites, Facebook and other social network sites. It is kind of similar to web sign, but it is different as it deals more with coding.
In cases like the development of a web, the web developers who have learned this skill are paid by professionals who want to work on their web pages. The web development process involves two phases that must be worked on, there are;
a. Server-side development
b. Client-side development
The server-side development is all about what goes on behind the scenes of the web, that is, the creators and how they do their stuff At this phase, there are coding languages that should be known, so you can understand the technique.
The client-side development is all about what the viewers or the visitors of the page see when they click on it. It includes the total view of the page’s content and designs. It operates with three codes, which are;
For front-end developing there are many JavaScript libraries as well such as:
There all have their different functions, but I won’t be talking about them now. If you care to know more about them and how they operate, you can tackle each and one of them individually, now that you know what they are used for.
E-commerce
E-commerce can be said to be an online site or platform for the buying and selling of goods. It is a place where business transactions are done or carried out. It does not only include buying and selling. You can also carry out internet banking and other online ticketing social activities.
E-commerce has created platforms for businesses and other major activities to proper. In the year 2020, it had a record for several sales and visiting. If you’re thinking of starting e-commerce, it is good. I would give you the following reasons below.
1. Sales any time of the day- This is a major benefit of e-commerce, as you can carry out sales any time of the day without restrictions. As far you’ve but an online store, you won’t be restricted on when or time of sales.
